Some background information
We live in north Perthshire at about 650 feet and in partnership with our neighbours, Johnny & Susie Mackey, we run a small flock of Lleyn sheep, a welsh breed from the Lleyn Peninsula on the north west coast of Wales. Lleyn sheep are renowned for their prolificacy and fantastic mothering abilities.
Our sheep spend almost all year at grass and the lambs are finished on grass without supplementary feeding – thus ensuring plenty of flavour in the tender lamb.
Although we are not organically registered the lambs are fed no supplements and are reared purely on our Drumlochy grass which is rich in clover. This constant feeding of grass means the lamb is packed full of flavour as well as high levels of vitamin E and omega-3 healthy fatty acids. A constant growth rate and regular handling to ensure stress levels are kept low contributes to a really tasty and juicy product.
When our lambs reach their ideal level of finish we transport them to our local abattoir. We then work in conjunction with our local butcher D&A Kennedy in Blairgowrie who cut and vacuum pack the lamb to our specification in clearly labeled packs ready for the freezer.
